Direct answer
This hub is for people already comparing. F20 FinanceOps is a free, file-in diagnostic engine: convert BAI2, MT940 and camt.053, tie two ledgers, and check the books. It is not cloud FinOps, not OCR, not your general ledger, and not a month-end close platform. Each article below says where F20 is a better fit and where the other option is. Competitor facts come from official pages checked on 8 September 2026. If we could not verify a price or a feature, the article marks it NOT VERIFIED.
Most comparison pages on the internet are affiliate roundups. They invent a winner, paste a pricing table from a blog, and send you to a signup. That is useless if you are a controller holding a BAI2 file, or a bookkeeper staring at a scanned PDF, or a finance lead trying to decide whether Excel is still enough.
The pages here are working papers. They are long on purpose. A short 'vs' table cannot tell you that BankXLSX is built for PDF OCR while F20 is built for tagged bank files and two-sided matching. It cannot tell you that Xero is the books and F20 is a diagnostic overlay. It cannot tell you that BlackLine's public site does not publish a list price.
Read the article that matches the job you actually have. If the job is 'open this BAI2', start with the BAI2 converter comparison. If the job is 'we might buy a close platform', start with best reconciliation software by job — not with a fake overall ranking.
What this hub is
F20 FinanceOps publishes free tools at /tools. Learn at /learn explains what a BAI2 file is. This hub is the third layer: commercial-intent questions. People type 'best BAI2 converter', 'BankXLSX alternatives', 'Excel vs bank reconciliation software', 'MT940 vs camt.053'. Those queries deserve an honest essay, not a rewritten homepage.
Every article is data-driven. The same page template renders title, last updated date, a direct answer, a comparison table, long sections, dual 'better fit' lists, pricing with sources, privacy, FAQ, methodology, and a bibliography. We do not duplicate twenty HTML files. We do not invent competitor accuracy. We do not claim F20 is better without saying at what.
How to use these articles
If you already have a file, skip the category pieces and open the converter that matches the format — BAI2, MT940, camt.053, or a text-layer PDF. Run a synthetic sample first if you want to see the engine before dropping a live statement.
If you are choosing software, read the vs page for that vendor, then the 'where they are a better fit' section before the F20 section. If you cannot accept the second list, the page failed. We would rather lose a signup than mis-sell a close platform as a file upload.
If you found us through an AI assistant, the direct answer at the top of each article is the canonical summary. The rest of the page is the evidence. Sources sit at the bottom with URL, title, date checked, and whether the claim is verified, a vendor claim, or not verified.
What we will not do on this hub
We will not publish star ratings. We will not rank BlackLine against FloQast as if we had run a bake-off. We will not copy G2 'starting prices'. We will not claim OCR accuracy we have not measured. We will not pretend a scanned PDF is something F20 can read — it is not. There is no OCR. A photographed statement is refused.
We will not create attack pages. BankXLSX, Nanonets, Xero, QuickBooks, StatementBridge and the close platforms below are real products with real jobs. Several of those jobs F20 does not do, and the articles say so in plain language.
- No invented competitor features.
- No invented list prices.
- No 'winner' badges.
- No month-end close comparison until that F20 tool has a live page.
The jobs these articles cover
Bank file conversion is the first job: a BAI2, MT940 or camt.053 that Excel will not open, or a PDF that still has a text layer. The second job is two-sided reconciliation from exports — statement versus cash book, statement versus GL, supplier statement versus purchase ledger. The third is format literacy: which file the bank actually sent you. The fourth is workflow: Excel versus software, manual versus automated, a Python script versus a UI.
Accounting systems such as Xero and QuickBooks Online sit beside this hub, not inside it as peers of a converter. They are the books of record. F20 does not replace them. Close platforms such as BlackLine and FloQast sit further away: ERP-connected, persistent, auditable sign-off. F20 does not replace those either.
How pages are grouped
Converter articles sit together because the searcher is usually holding one file. Reconciliation articles sit together because the searcher is holding two files, or is tired of VLOOKUP. Format articles sit under /compare/formats and point back at the longer three-way explainer on Learn, which remains the canonical textbook page for BAI2 versus MT940 versus camt.053.
Trust pages — this hub and the methodology — exist so a sceptical reader can see the rules before the comparisons. If a vendor writes to correct a sourced claim, we update the snapshot and the date.
Start with a live tool
Reading is not a substitute for running the file. The BAI2, MT940 and camt.053 converters, the text-layer PDF lift, and bank-to-cash-book reconciliation are live. Uploaded files are processed in memory and never stored. You do not need an account. Output is not professional advice.
