Direct answer
Xero is a cloud general ledger for small businesses: invoicing, bills, bank feeds, and bank reconciliation inside the books. JAX auto-reconciles feed lines using Rule, Match, Memory and Prediction on Growing plans and above. US list prices on Xero's recon page on 8 September 2026: Early $25/month after intro, Growing $55, Established $90 (intro discounts also shown). F20 FinanceOps is not a GL. It converts BAI2/MT940/camt.053, matches two exports, and does not store files. Use Xero to keep the books. Use F20 when Xero cannot parse the file the bank sent, or when you are reconciling two ledgers that do not both live in Xero.
Versus pages that pretend a converter is 'like Xero but cheaper' are lying. Xero's job is the books. F20's job is the file that will not go into the books cleanly, or the second ledger that is not Xero.
If your bank feed in Xero is healthy, you may never need F20. If you just received an MT940 that Xero's importer rejected, you need a converter, not another Xero plan.
What Xero's official recon pages say
Connect bank accounts; statement lines import; JAX applies four methods; highly confident matches go through; uncertain ones wait. You can turn JAX off per account. Dashboard shows bank statement balance versus Xero balance and unreconciled lines. Growing plan is required for JAX on the page we read. Early plan includes 'Reconcile bank transactions' without that auto-reconcile line.
The how-to guide walks the classic recon steps and says manual spreadsheet recon is possible. Xero is allowed to say their way is faster. We will not invent a minute count of our own.
What F20 is relative to a GL
Overlay. Diagnostic. Optional. It will not invoice your customers. It will not file tax. It will not keep a chart of accounts. It will tell you which statement lines do not match a cash-book export you upload.
Feature comparison
Apples and a file parser.
| F20 | Xero | |
|---|---|---|
| System of record | No | Yes |
| Bank feed | No | Yes |
| BAI2 / MT940 / camt parsers | Yes | Not why you buy Xero |
| Match two arbitrary CSVs | Yes | Not the product |
| Invoicing, bills, payroll partners | No | Yes |
| Price | No charge | Published US plans on the recon page |
| File retention | Not stored | The books are stored — that is the product |
Workflow
Happy path SMB: Xero feed, JAX, done. Unhappy path: bank sends BAI2, Xero wants a different import, controller dumps the file on F20, downloads CSV, imports or recs outside. That unhappy path is F20's happy path.
Pricing
Xero figures above are from the US bank-reconciliation feature page on 8 September 2026, including intro rates ($2.50 / $5.50 / $9 for six months). Re-read before buying. F20 remains no charge.
Privacy
Xero holds your books. MFA is required to log in, per their recon FAQ. F20 holds nothing of an anonymous upload after the response. Do not use F20 as a Xero backup.
Limitations
F20 will not replace Xero. Xero will not become a BAI2 control-total viewer because you read this page.
When to open F20 even if you love Xero
The feed is late and the bank already sent MT940 by email. You can wait for JAX or you can convert and see whether cash moved. Waiting is often right. Seeing is sometimes required.
A second entity is not on Xero yet. You still have to rec its statement to a cash book for the pack. F20 will rec the files. Xero will rec the entities that live in Xero. Both sentences can be true in one group.
A statement quality problem — truncated file, broken running balance — will not be obvious in a feed UI that already imported 400 lines. F20's quality tool is for that suspicion. It is not a Xero app. It is a second opinion on the file. If the quality tool says the file does not tie, do not reconcile in Xero until you know whether the bank or the importer dropped rows.
Methodology
Xero official recon feature page and guide. F20 legal and catalog. QBO is a sibling article, not a third column here.
Where F20 FinanceOps is a better fit
- The bank file is BAI2, MT940 or camt.053 and you need it in rows with a tie-out before or instead of a Xero import.
- You are reconciling two exports that are not both in Xero (group cash book, treasury file, second entity).
- You want a zero-cost diagnostic that does not keep the file.
Where Xero is a better fit
- You need a GL, invoices, bills, and a bank feed. That is Xero's product.
- JAX auto-reconciling connected accounts on Growing+ is the workflow you want.
- You want the books to persist, with users and audit in the accounting system.
FAQ
Not as a published connector on this site. CSV in between is the honest path today.
No. That question is a category error.
Not inside Xero. F20 can match files JAX never sees.
No. See their plan table. F20's tools are.
Xero says you can import. F20 can convert a tagged statement to CSV for that import, or rec the two files without entering Xero at all. If the import still fails, the tagged file — not Xero — is the first suspect.
